Policy Manager, Temporary, Full Time for a period of up to 13 months, £54,828 per annum

It is an exciting time to join the Law Society of Scotland. Due to maternity leave we have an opportunity within the Policy Team for a Policy Manager to join us on a temporary basis for approximately 12 months. This role helps us to deliver and coordinate our policy and public affairs work and plays a wider part in influencing the future shape of public policy and legislation in Scotland.

Our External Relations directorate comprises our Policy, Communications, Research and International teams. The Policy Team aims to influence the creation of a fairer and more just society, promoting the rule of law, responding to consultations, legislation and other policy developments at Holyrood and Westminster. Our committees are populated by volunteers who are experts in their field.

Key Responsibilities for this role

Reporting to the Head of Policy, the successful candidate will:  

Manage our policy work in the crucial areas of access to justice and legal aid;
Line-manage up to three team members working on civil justice issues and manage the overall policy team budget;
Deliver a programme of political and stakeholder engagement in the run-up to the 2026 Scottish Parliament elections.

Key Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Legal, policy or public affairs background and relevant policy experience;
Experience of managing people, projects or budgets;
Ability to deliver confident oral and written communications to a range of different audiences and to engage with a range of stakeholders;
Understanding of issues involving legal aid and access to justice in Scotland, and of parliamentary structures and legislative processes;
